Strai kitchen

Strai Kitchen is an old kitchen manufacturer that started back in 1929. The family business has grown to become Norway’s largest kitchen manufacturer. The fourth generation are currently the ones in charge, and they are focused on integrating new technology to optimize production and stay competitive. To test the technology Strai did a demo project with a MIR250, and the results were positive and they decided to move on and integrate a mobile robot solution.

Unmanned solution

Like most manufacturers, Strai is always looking for ways to increase efficiency and productivity and Strai aims to do 2nd shift unmanned.

Strai always wanted to implement unmanned solutions for transport of the materials and product. They already had a robot cell arm from Obel-P that picked up the raw material, but the transport was done by the employees. Using the employees to move this around takes a lot of work hours that could be spent on more value-added activities within the production environment. By implementing unmanned solutions will free up the employee’s time and increase the revenue for each employee.

Autonomous mobile robots were introduced to Strai, and they were quickly impressed by their performance.

Introducing MiR1000

Strai, Obel-P and Robotic Innovation had a workshop at the factory, where they together made the specification for integration of an autonomous mobile robot solution. The solution they came up with was a Mir1000 shelf lift, custom made trolleys for raw materials, custom made robot vell station for drop-off/pickup trolley, and integration towards Obel-P robot cell.

The functionality of this is that the employees prepare raw materials on a trolley. The Mir robot will get information and pick up the trolley and drop it off the robot cell infeed. Once the product is being finalised, the MiR will pick up the trolley with fabricated product from the robot cell and deliver the trolley to the assembly stations for further activities.

More productive

The MiR1000 and robot cell solution project is up and running, and the next step is to increase more transport activities. It has made the transportation of raw material and finished product completely automatic. Now there is no need for any employees to move trolleys around, and they are now focused on doing more productive activities within the warehouse. This had led to a huge increase of the production and made them grow even more.

They started of small with only a single Mir, but they want to start expanding soon.
